Ceara, Guarani, Atletico-GO and Vasco to join first division in 2010

Ceara, Guarani and Atletico-GO, together with the second division champion Vasco Saturday mathematically guaranteed their spots in the top flight in the Brazilian soccer championship next season.

With one round left to play in the second division, Vasco leads the field with 76 points, followed by Ceara on 67, Guarani with 66and Atletico-GO, 65.

Vasco, just as Corinthians in 2008, only spent one year in the second division before earning the right to return to the Serie A.Mean while, the triumph marks the end of Ceara's 16-year absence from the first division.

On the other end of the standings, the four teams to be sent into the third division (Serie C), will be decided after the 38th and last round of play next week.

As of today, Campinense-PB holds onto dead last place with 33 points, followed by ABC in 19th place with 35 points, Fortaleza with 37 points and Juventude with 44 points.

However, Ipatinga, Brasiliense-DF and America-RN all have 45 points, making the final round of play decisive for the bottom teams of the league.
