Injured Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Real Madrid's La Liga match at Sporting Gijon on Saturday.

The record 80 million pounds (88 million euros) signing, who previously played for England Premiership's Manchester United, is still recovering from a right ankle injury sprained against Olympique Marseille last month.

He aggravated the injury playing for Portugal against Hungary two weeks ago and is expected to be out for another two weeks.

Real lost at home in European Champions League with a 3-2 reverse against AC Milan but have the chance to go above Barcelona, top La Liga with a one-point lead, as Real are in action first on Saturday.

French midfielder Lassana Diarra is likely to miss the game after being given permission to return home to attend to a family matter on Thursday.
