England striker Wayne Rooney is doubtful for Manchester United's Premier League match at Liverpool on the day after his birthday due to a calf injury.
"He is always desperate to play; that's the nature of the boy...It's going to be important how he does in training on Saturday," said United manager Alex Ferguson.
The injury, being suffered two weeks ago while Rooney played for England, has kept him out of the Red Devils' last two games.
Man. United will also miss midfielder Darren Fletcher and Park Ji-sung through injury.
Rooney, formerly playing for Liverpool and Everton, has scored seven goals for United this season.
