Hungarian first division team Fehervar FC called off the deal to sign former soccer star of Germany Lothar Matthaeus as the coach, said its website on Saturday.
Fehervar announced Matthaeus' appointment earlier this month but said it was called off on Saturday.
The League Cup winners, who finished sixth last season, gave no explanation, simply saying that the West Germany's 1990 World Cup-winning captain would not become coach.
Former midfielder Matthaeus, having a record 150 caps for his country, was Hungary coach from February 2004 to December 2005. His last job was in Israel where he managed Maccabi Netanya.
