The visiting Presidency director general of Spanish soccer club Real Madrid on Tuesday delivered 100,000 U.S. dollars to help those made homeless in flood-hit Mexican state Tabasco.

"We held a campaign in Madrid to raise awareness of the tragedy that was under way in the Mexican state," Real's Arroyo told media at a press conference in Mexico's Education Ministry. Real is also working with the Ministry on the Sporting Social Integration Program, which has been under construction for several months, he added.

The flooding began on Oct. 29 after Tropical Storm Noel dumped the worst rain seen in 50 years over Tabasco and neighboring state Chiapas, which trapped thousands of residents on the roofs of their homes, flooded 17 Tabasco towns completely and forced the evacuation of 250,000 people to emergency shelters.

More than one million people are now homeless and at its height80 percent of the state was underwater.
