Asafa Powell, the fastest man in the world so far in 2010, has aimed to refresh the the men's 100m mark as the Jamaican takes on three-time world champion Tyson Gay for the first time this year next month in the Diamond League series.

"I'm looking forward to getting to the British Grand Prix - I know that I have a pretty serious race lined up with Gay competing as well and I'll be going all out to make sure that I get a faster time," said the 27-year-old former world record holder.

Powell and Gay will both attend the British Grand Prix on 10 July in Gateshead and the London Grand Prix on August 13-14, the eighth and 12th stops of the Diamond League series.

"Myself and Tyson are clearly the two that are going after the world record but I truly believe that it's mine to lose at the moment," Powell told the sport's world governing body's website.

"Tyson has not been competing that much this year and I know he's been injured, so I'm looking to take advantage of that. I'm feeling good and am on form so I'm confident that I'll place first in this race - I' m certainly aiming for that."

The duo have not reaced against each other in the 100m since September last year.

Gay edges Powell in their head-to-heads with three wins in a row.

The current world sprint record of 9.58 seconds is set by Powell's fellow Jamaican Usain Bolt in 2009.
