Chinese Olympic Committee hails Li Na's French Open victory

The Chinese Olympic Committee, the State General Administration of Sports and the All-Chinese Sports Federation, all headed by Liu Peng, heaped praise on Li Na following the Wuhan native's breakthrough win in the French Open.

In a joint letter sent to China's Tennis Administrative Center, the three sports organizations commended Li's "fighting spirit, courage and strategic mind".

The letter said Li "has set a good example for Chinese sports men and women" and her French Open win will "spur fellow Chinese athletes to achieve excellent results in the 2012 London Olympic Games".

Li Na made history Saturday as she became the first

Chinese to win a Grand Slam singles title with her 6-4, 7-6

(7-0) victory over Italian Francesca Schiavone.
