Third seed Roger Federer overwhelmed Belgian qualifier Olivier Rochus 6-3, 6-1 to reach the last eight in a fourth-round clash at Miami ATP Masters 1000 which ended at around 1:30 am on Wednesday.

After seeing a series of marathon matches including Maria Sharapova's three and a half hours win in the first match of the night session on Tuesday, the world third ranked Federer step on the court at 00:36 am. But the Swiss only needed 52 minutes to seal the convincing victory with two straight sets.

"It's happened a few times in my career where we waited around forever and I was able to play one of those clean, quick matches, but still, I prefer it not to happen every night," said Federer after the match.

Federer will next play against France's 25th seed Gilles Simon in the quarterfinals, who ousted Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 in an earlier match.
