World number one Dinara Safina lost her first set at the French Open before advancing into the last four on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Russian, who had never lost a set in the previous four rounds, was made to fight before conquering No. 9 seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
