Top-seeded David Nalbandian overcame a second set slump to beat Italian Fabio Fognini 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3 and made it to the quarterfinals of the Buenos Aires Open on Wednesday.

Coming up next for Nalbandian will be No. 7 seed Potito Starace, who swept past Juan Pablo Brzezicki of Argentina 6-3, 6-3 without facing a single break point.

No. 4-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela and No. 5 Nicolas Almagro also won.

"This was a very hard match and I got myself into trouble by losing the second set," said Nalbandian, who needed 2 hours and 33minutes to win the breathless match, making a fifth bid to win his country's only ATP event.

"It was very long but fortunately I was able to break back to take the lead in the final set and finish it out."
