Ugur Erdener, president of Turkey's Olympic Committee said on Sunday that Istanbul is likely to bid for the 2020 Olympic Games.

The president said that "there is a general agreement" to launch Istanbul's fifth bid for the Olympics after failed attempts in 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012.

"An announcement would be made in the coming days," he said.

Rome, Madrid and Tokyo have already announced to enter the race, while other potential candidates include Doha, Qatar and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

South Africa announced last month that it would not bid, but indicated that it's not the final decision.

The IOC will select the 2020 host city in 2013.
