On May 26, Qinghai Province held the 2011 National Alpine Ski Competition in Gang Ziska Peak. Starting off from the city of Xining, the competitors had made their way to the peak after a three-hour hard trip of more than 200 miles, which marked a commencement of the first-ever high-altitude ski mountaineering sports in China. As a part of the 10th Qinghai Lake International Cycling Race event, the competition was regarded as a significant breakthrough in the traditional mountaineering activities.

Gang Ziska Peak, also known as Leng Long Ling, with the highest elevation of 5,254 meters and an average altitude of 4,540 meters, is the highest peak in circum-Xining traveling zone. The total glacier area of the peak covers 81 square kilometers, which is served as a natural training base for ski monuntaineering.
