The emblem, with the English letters of NANJING standing out in bright colors, showcased the energy and vibrancy of the youth. The characters were outlined in the shape of ancient city gate and local residence, both of which were the unique features of the province. The emblem represented the passion of Nanjing for sports and culture, and the city gate symbolized the 'warmth and friendliness' of the Nanjing people. The Youth Olympic Games, which is initiated by Jacques Rogge, features athletes between the age of 14 and 18. The first Summer Youth Olympic Games was held in Singapore last year.
