This Monday saw models of the 20 houses that will compete for the Solar Decathlon Europe competition exhibited in Barcelona.
As many as 20 universities from 15 countries, including Germany, Spain, China, Egypt, Norway, the United Kingdom and Japan are competing in the event, which will conclude in Madrid in the summer of 2012.
It will be the most international edition of the event ever to be held and shows how the message to use sustainable resources is spreading across the world.
The teams have to build sustainable houses that run just on solar energy and which have to pass 10 separate tests in order to win the prize.
Although there is still a year to go before the full size houses are built, this week people have the chance to see the models of the designs that have made it through to the final.
