A Zambian judoka has qualified for the 2012 London Olympic Games finals following his impressive performance in last year's international tournaments, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Tuesday.

Mathews Punza, who was ranked 73rd in the world and fourth in Africa, scored 84 points from last year's international tournaments to book a place at the Olympics.

According to the list released on the International Judo Federation (IJF) website, the ranking of a judoka was made by the highest sum of the 10 best results from the past 12 months.

The Zambian judoka (66 kilograms) won a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Ireland and was currently based at the high performance center in Algeria, Daily Mail said.
