Ian Conger, a professional sailor from Isle of Wight in Britain, will be skipper of the yacht Qingdao in the coming season of the Clipper yacht race, officials of local sports administration said Sunday.

Ian Conger, 39, chose his first job in information and technology industry, but soon he found he had a deep affection for sailing due to his parents' influence in childhood.

After receiving sailing training in college, Conger became a first mate and dreamed of being a skipper when he knew Chris Stammore, skipper of Qingdao yacht in last Clipper season.

"I attended Coast Sailing Week and other sailing events, so I am experienced," Conger said. "I really look forward to leading the Qingdao yacht to win a trophy."

Attracting 10 yacht teams, the 2011-2012 Clipper race will start from this August in Britain and come to visit Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, in next February.

The Clipper Round of the World Yacht Race, held every two years, is the largest amateur yacht race, and the Qingdao yacht has joined the race twice.
