A total of 11 countries are expected in Mombasa for the Africa Zone Six golf tournament, which will start on Monday in Mombasa.

Already Tanzania's men's golf team is in Mombasa for Africa's top amateur show-down, at the par 72 Nyali Golf and Country Club course.

Coached by Zimbabwean born professional Farayi Chitengwa, Tanzania has three players Jimmy Mollel, his brother Nuru Mollel, and Elisante Lembris to watch out for.

Three others are playing off handicap two, Abas Adam, Frank Roman and Godfrey Leverian with the remaining two Michael Makala and Iddy Mzaki having handicap four each.

Kenya is the defending champions and had its team travel to Mombasa on Monday from Nairobi.

The team has been practising at Nyali since then. National team coach Ali Kimani said the players were in great shape and all ready for the championship.

Kenya and Tanzania will be joined by Malawi on Friday while South Africa, Botswana and Namibia arrive in Nairobi on Sunday.

They will then have a night stay in the capital before they travel to Mombasa on Monday morning. Other teams also expected are Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and Mozambique.

East Africa champion Uganda has not indicated its arrival though. Uganda, who will be seeking to extend its strong play in the zone tournament, might arrive on Sunday for the practise round on Monday morning.

"The course is tough because of the ongoing rains, but the greens are holding very well," said Kimani. Kimani said his line-up was probably stronger than last year's.

"I have a strong team, some of whom have played in the Africa Zone Six more than three times in the past," he said.

Coast based Amos Kamau and handicap one is apparently the highest handicap player. Collins Omondi, and South Africa-based Stefan Andersen, Boniface Simwa, David Opati, Jay Sandhu, Nelson Mudanyi, Francis Kimani and Rwanda Open champion Joseph Karanja make the Kenya team.
