De Villiers' was a fine century and his tenth ODI 100.

AB De Villiers was the pick of the South African performers as his side got their World Cup campaign off to a promising start.

After being set a target of 222 to chase down, the South Africa openers set about their task nervously losing opener and top-ranked ODI batsman Hashim Amla for just 14 runs.

There was a danger that the South Africa response could fall apart two overs later when Jaques Kallis was dismissed for just four.

Cue De Villiers entrance. The 27-year-old set about putting some runs on the board with an array of scintillating strokes.

The West Inidies attack was made to look well short of effective as De Villiers played through high-scoring partnerships with captain Graeme Smith and JP Duminy.

The defeat sees West Indies slip to ninth, behing Bangladesh, in the ICC rankings and underlined why South Africa are considered one of the favorites to lift the World Cup on April 2nd.
