7th Asian Winter Games cost 1.65 billion US dollars

The 7th Asian Winter Games which was held in Kazakhstan cost in total 1.65 billion US dollars according to local media's report on Monday.

"Asian Winter Games' venue construction cost 1.4 billion US dollars, organization and preparatory work cost 250 million US dollars," said Ermegiyaev Talgat Amangeldievich, Kazakh Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports Department.

According to Ermegiyaev, to maintain sustainable development of Kazakh National Fit-keeping Program, the country also allocated 16 billion tenges (110 million US dollars) for the construction of civilian sports facilities and sports schools.

In addition, Kazakh government also set aside a special fund for medal winning athletes. It is reported that the gold, silver and bronze medal winners will be granted 10,000, 5,000 and 3,000 US dollars respectively, the total prize money is more than one million US dollars.

In this Winter Games, three Kazakh athletes personally won four gold medals each, each of which will receive a prize of 40,000 US dollars.

It is also reported that, in line with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's request, Mayor of Kazakh Capital Astana Tasmagambetov Imangali Nurgalievich has recently handed over a set of new house to 10 medal winning athletes and two coaches respectively as reward for their excellent performance.

The 7th Asian Winter Games was held from January 30th to February 6th in Kazakh Capital Astana and largest Kazakh city Almaty. This Winter Games included five major items and 11 small items, and a total of 69 gold medals were awarded.
