Asian Winter Games venue construction into closing stage

According to Kazakhstan local media' s report on Thursday, the mayor of the country's largest city Almaty, Akhmetzhan Yesimov, said the venue construction of 2011 seventh Asian Winter Games in Almaty has entered into the closing stage.

Yesimov said: "We debrief work progress report on venue construction and renovation of the Asian Winter Games every week. According to the decision of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Almaty will host the closing ceremony of the Winter Games. Almaty Sports and Culture Authority will complete the plot of the closing ceremony as soon as possible, and solve necessary funding problem."

Yesimov stated, on the issue of venue construction, there should be long term vision, to ensure all the venues be used for commercial operations after the Winter Games, to recover the investment cost. He also expressed the hope that all the newly constructed and renovated venues can bring health and happiness to Almaty citizens.

The Asian Winter Games will be held from January 30 to February 6 in 2011 in Kazakhstan's capital Astana and largest city Almaty simultaneously. The Winter Games will include five categories, 11 small items, and a total of 69 gold medals.
