Canadian Paula Findlay took victory in the London leg of World Championship series at Hyde Park on Saturday.

The 21-year-old edged out last year's race winner Nicola Spirig from Switzerland to win her first World Championship series title in one hours 51 minutes and 48 seconds.

"I definitely wasn't expecting to be on the podium at all today. It's just unbelievable. I thought I might get in the top 15 or top 20, I just wanted to try to be competitive," said the current world top 20.

Findlay was 23rd among after swimming among the 65 athletes, then grabbed a fifth position in the eight-lap, 38.4 km cycling. After finishing the 10km run in 33 minutes and 51 seconds first, the Canadian girl topped the podium.

Spirig, the sixth finisher at 2008 Beijing Olympics, took silver with three seconds behind while British favourite Helen Jenkins finished third in 1:51:53.

Olympic bronze medallist Emma Moffat from Australia was placed ninth in the elite race. The current world number one admitted that she didn't have her best day but insisted that she would try to maintain her top ranking over the next two race.
