2009 Tour of Hainan International Road Cycling Race has been upgraded to 2.HC level, Asia's top level, organizers said here at the press conference on Tuesday.

The upgrading of the event would bring more vigor and energy to the races in future, said Chen Yajun, an official with the organizing committee.

He added that Tour of Hainan will make more efforts to become the world-class cycling race like Tour de France and Giro d'Italia.

Tour of Hainan, covering over 1,400 kilometers, will visit all the 18 cities and counties of the east China's province for the first time.

Divided into nine stages, the race sets starting point and finish line in Sanya, a famous tropical tourist resort in China.

A total of twenty teams including one UCI continental professional team, 12 continental teams, six national teams and one regional team will compete for the total prize money of 250,000 U.S. dollars.

The race starts on Nov. 11 through to 19.
