The Beijing Olympic Games has recruited 74,615 competition volunteers from 98 countries and districts. Among them 73,195 are from the Chinese mainland, 299 from Hong Kong, 95 from Macao, 91 from Taiwan and 935 from abroad.
Most volunteers are young people, but the oldest is 87-year-old Sun Fangchui, who works at the National Stadium. In addition, 7,600 volunteers have been recruited in the 6 co-hosting cities: Qingdao, Shenyang, Shanghai, Qinhuangdao, Tianjin and Hong Kong. A total of more than 30,000 competition volunteers have been assigned to the Paralympics. All statistics come from today's press conference held at the International Press Center.
Olympic volunteers will be scattered throughout competition venues, non-competition venues, training fields and service sites at more than 2,940 locations; and cover 61 businesses.
