Hein Verbruggen, the president of IOC's coordination commission for the 2008 Olympic Games recently gave a thumbs-up to Beijing's preparation for the 2008 summer Olympic Games.
Verbruggen hailed Beijing's preparation work; stated that Beijing has become the world's focus as the Games approach, and that the city has endeavored to make a very successful debut to promote the Olympic Spirit.
He also expressed his hope that Beijing will live up to international and national expectations by hosting the sport gala as a result of top-notch preparation and services. With the spectacular 'Bird's Nest' and 'Water Cube' as examples, Beijing, he believed, will take people's breath away in the wonders it constantly creates.
In regards to the hot weather during the summer Games, he smiled, saying that Beijing's summer is indeed hot – as it is in Athens and Atlanta. Both cities; however, hosted very successful Olympic Games. In addition, facts indicate that weather has little bearing on the athletes' performance.
Verbruggen stressed that the Beijing Olympic Games will serve as a showcase of China's national conditions as an emerging economy; and offer opportunities for the international community to better understand China. By People's Daily Online
