Caroline Wozniacki has already stamped her authority on the US Open, but she now wants to live up to her top seeding by going on to win the title on Sunday.

In the way stands Vera Zvonareva in Friday's semi-finals and then the winner of the match between the woman who beat her in last year's final, Kim Clijsters, and twice former champion Venus Williams.

If the Clijsters-Williams tie gets star billing, Wozniacki's star is burning ever brighter in New York, where her blonde good looks and sunny disposition have won her a stack of admirers. If she wins the title on Sunday, she will knock Serena Williams off her perch as the world No 1.

Wozniacki hopes to land a knockout punch on Zvonareva but knows that she may have to go the distance in what is likely to be her toughest test yet in New York. The two have played four times and the honors are shared 2-2.
