Brazil ties Germany 1-1 at halftime, Formiga breaks Angerer's jinx

Midfielder Formiga scored an outstanding goal to break Germany keeper Nadine Angerer's impenetrable jinx, as Brazil drew with Wolrd champions Germany 1-1 at halftime of the Olympic women's soccer semi-finals on Monday.

Before the match, Germany has kept an incredible record of not conceding a single gold in ten top-level international games. The Germans cruised to win FIFA Wolrd Cup 2007 championship without a goal against, and didn't allow any goal during the first four outings at the Beijing Games.

Birgit Prinz netted her first goal at the Beijing Games when the tall German striker rounded an advancing Barbara following a clumsy mistake of a defender and drove the ball into an empty net in the 10th minute.

Germany piled heavy pressure on Brazil from the beginning, and forced the skillful rivals to make unusual errors in defence and passings.

Formiga eased the nerves of the Auriverde on 43 minutes, when she unleashed a powerful shot into the net after Cristiane fed a cross from the left before Marta missed the first-timing shot.
