Thais stole the final show of the inaugural Universiade shooting from the powerhouses Russia and China by grabbing two gold medals on Monday.
A double-check of the paper targets gave the Thai team one more point, indispensable for them to take the title of the women's 50m rifle prone.
Thailand had a tied score of 1,742 points with China before the double-check and was on the second place because of lower scores from the last serie of ten shots.
"We double-checked the targets of all three teams in the leading positions and found one of them previously counted a nine was actually a ten," said Tan Weichang, the classification jury. " And the piece of paper target had been checked through a meterage machine for the hole."
"There were three of us working on it, and we didn't care which team it was from. We were just responsible for the target," he added.
The Chinese team who decided not to submit a protest thus took the silver medal.
The first shooting gold of the host came from Janejira Srisongkram, who caught 100 birds out of 120 in the women's double trap event.
The Chinese, however, retrieved their fame in the women's 25m pistol event by winning both the team and individual titles with international debutant Wang Jieyi on top of the individual ranking with a total of 785.7 points.
Russian youngster Leonid Ekimov concluded his personal show with the second individual gold of the meet in the men's 10m air pistol with 686.5 points after his early victory in the 50m pistol event.
The 19-year old, competing in all four men's pistol events, odd in international meets, became the biggest winner at the Universiade shooting range with five golds, two silvers and one bronze from both team and individual.
The shotgun marksmen brought Russia the other two gold medals of the day by dominating the double trap field, and thus making the Russian team lead the final shooting medal tally with a total of 11 gold medals, followed by China with nine golds from the four- day competition.
