"The comparison is even more alarming when we consider the universe researched, much smaller in the Paralympics than in the Olympics," pointed out physician Eduardo de Rose, member of the World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) and Medical Committee President of the Pan American Sports Organization (Odepa).
Apart from the standard control scheduled for each sport modality at the Parapan Am Games, which involves from 10 percent to 20 percent of the total number of competitors, the Brazilian Committee will hold tests before the beginning of the events and whenever a record is broken.
As soon as the athletes get their credentials, they are subject to be drafted to the anti-doping tests, aimed at detecting the same forbidden substances as the tests held at the Pan Am Games.
Brazilian sprinter Adria dos Santos, winner of 12 Paralympic medals and nine Parapan Am medals, agreed that athletes with disabilities need to undergo the same control destined to others.
"Many athletes still think that, in the Paralympic sport, it is harder to be caught in the anti-doping control," revealed Dos Santos.
