According to a survey on salaries of different industries conducted by Investor Journal, a Chinese newspaper, the average salary of executives in the financial industry was the highest among all industries in China in 2010.

Of all financial enterprises, GF Securities paid most for its top management team, totaling 72 million yuan last year, as each executive received 3.6 million yuan. On average, financial executives earn 24.8 million yuan annually. Those in other industries earn 3.68 million yuan, only one-seventh the amount of their counterparts in the financial industry.

Of the 2106 listed financial companies, which include banking, securities and trust enterprises, there were 819 executives in total. If the 204 independent directors who did not receive any payment are excluded, the average annual salary will reach 1.3 million yuan. This number also indicates that financial industry pays extremely high remuneration.

On the one hand, the financial industry seems to be an attractive career, which can provide high salaries. On the other hand, it has also seen an ever-increasing contradiction between the supply and demand of eligible labor.

Presently, about 200,000 people work in financial industry in Shanghai, accounting for only 1 percent of the municipal employed population. In the long term, Shanghai will increase at least 1 million financial workers to meet its need as a global financial hub.
