Shanghai authorities will impose a differential electric price policy on eight energy-intensive industries.
The government will increase electric prices of restricted enterprises from 0.05 yuan per kilowatt-hour to 0.15 yuan per kilowatt-hour and prices for elimination enterprises from 0.2 yuan per kilowatt-hour to 0.4 yuan per kilowatt-hour, which will be phased in over two years.
The government also will use punitive price policies on those energy-intensive enterprises which exceed the national and local limited quantity quota.
It is reported Shanghai has achieved 84 percent of the GDP energy-saving goal of the 11th five-year plan. To fulfill the target for this year, the Shanghai government requires that energy-intensive industries limit the growth of energy consumption to 5 percent. These industries include transportation, petroleum processing, chemical, steel, rubber and building materials.
