The newly-established National Energy Commission (NEC) will play a leading role in formulating the strategic national energy plan that will guide China's medium and long-term energy development with a duration estimated to exceed 20 years, Deputy Chairman of the National Energy Administration Wu Yin said January 30.

The key content of the strategic national energy plan includes adjusting the energy structure, encouraging diversified energy development and increasing the proportion of renewable energy sources to the total. It also includes promoting energy conservation to enhance energy efficiency, better consolidating the development and utilization of domestic resources, advocating environmental protection and encouraging international cooperation in the energy field.

Wu also said that the revised "Energy Law" has been submitted to the State Council and listed in the legislation plan. Meanwhile, the revision of the "Coal Law," part of the "Energy Law," will be carried out and the formulation of the "Electricity Law" and "Oil and Natural Gas Law" will gradually be initiated.
