As the national economy continues to pick up, four sectors including daily passenger transportation, daily cargo loading, daily cargo sending and total cargo turnover all reached a new record high in railway transportation history.

Passenger transportation reached a new high on Oct 1 with an astonishing 6.93 million passengers per day. From Jan to Oct, the total railway passenger count was 1.31 billion, an increase of 60 million and 4.8% compared to last year.

Cargo transportation is in good shape since gaining profits for the first time in July this year. In Oct, daily cargo loading was 151,000 vehicles, with an increase of 4,300 vehicles and 2.9% compared to last year. Total cargo sent was 294 million tons, with an increase of 1.1 million tons and 3.7% compared to last year. Total cargo transportation was 224.67 billion tons per km, with an increase of 9.98 billion tons per km and 4.8% compared to last year. These four areas all reach a new high in railway transportation.

Total investment in railway infrastructure was 390.61 billion RMB, with the increase of 87.5% compared to last year.

Statistics show that railway transportation will continue to get stronger, as a very important indicator to the national economy. The railway department will focus both on cargo transportation and on infrastructure. This will increase domestic demand and provide stable protection for the national economy.
