Xie Zhenhua, vice chairman of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), stated yesterday at a press conference after the 3rd Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate Ministerial Meeting that after implementation of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", China's unit GDP energy consumption had fallen by 13 percent accumulatively by the first half of this year. It was expected to drop 5 percent this year and realize the overall objective of declining 20 percent by the end of 2010.

Xie introduced that China's clean energy had been developed considerably in recent years; the proportion of renewable energy had reached 9% last year. At present, China's solar manufacturing capacity and usage ranked first all over the globe, the scale of hydroelectric power listed first in the world, and wind power capacity listed fourth. Meanwhile the development of nuclear power was speeding up.
