China home to 1,200 foreign R&D centers

According to incomplete statistics, China has more than 1,200 R&D centers set up by multinational companies, said Ministry of Commerce spokesman Yao Jian on Tuesday.

As of the end of 2009, 465 of these R&D centers were established as independent legal entities with approval of the Ministry of Commerce. These centers have a total investment amounting to 12.8 billion US dollars and registered capital of 7.4 billion US dollars.

The centers are mainly concentrated in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
