China CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co. Ltd announced recently that an urban light train, worth 350 million RBM, will be produced for Izmir, the 3rd largest city in Turkey before April 2012. It marks the first time China-made urban light trains have tapped into the European market.

Han Jun, market manager of Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co. Ltd said, Izmir, located near the Aegean Sea, is an ancient European capital and a famous tourist city. In order to meet the increasing heavy traffic demands, Izmir has decided to add a new line No. 2 to its previous 100 km urban light rail system. This deal demonstrates the strong competitiveness of China-made light train as the European market is known for extremely strict standards on safety, comfort, capacity, energy efficiency and environmental protection.

It is reported that this light train will use a welded aluminum body, fitted with advanced equipment like auto-stop announcement, electronic maps, multi-media players, video monitors, fire detection and emergency evacuation system. Although the new Line No. 2 will be built along mostly the winding roads, this light train is fully adapted for this situation. The train can hold 1,000 passengers with the maximum speed 80 kilometers per hour even in the complex operating environment.
