China Mobile, which enjoys a near-unassailable share in China's telecom market, is also the most profitable telecom operator in the world. The company ranked seventh in revenue on the top-10 global telecom operators list released by market research company Analysys Mason on Sept. 8, but ranked first according to the earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.

According to Analysys Mason, the worldwide telecom market generated 1.8 trillion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2009, up 1 percent from 2008. When ranked by revenue, the top-10 operators are AT&T, NTT, Verizon, Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica, Vodafone, China Mobile, France Telecom, Telecom Italia and KDDI.

However, the top-10 list changes significantly when the operators are ranked according to their earnings, and they are listed in this order: China Mobile, Telefónica, Telecom Italia, AT&T, Vodafone, France Telecom, NTT, Deutsche Telekom, Verizon and KDDI.

It can be seen from the rankings that China Mobile maintains the highest profitability among telecom operators worldwide.

Meanwhile, according to a report on the 2009 performance of central-government-owned companies released by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, China Mobile's full-year profits reached 148.5 billion yuan in 2009, making it the most profitable central state-owned enterprise in China.
