Air China Ltd said it has entered into an agreement to buy 20 Airbus 320 series aircraft.
The combined price for the airplanes is $1.63 billion and the airline received significant price concessions, it said in a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange earlier this month.
The company will take delivery on the aircraft from 2011 to 2014, according to the statement.
The new planes will strengthen the fleet capacity of the company by 5 percent compared to December 2009 and will mainly support the building of a hub in Chengdu and expand capacity in southwest China, the company said.
