Who will be the next technology tycoon after Bill Gates? Some young Chinese entrepreneurs are promising candidates.

Prominent U.S. financial magazine Forbes selected 8 candidates for "the next Bill Gates" on January 25, 2009. All of these eight candidates are under 40 years old, and of which four are Chinese, including Shanda Interactive Entertainment Limited founder Chen Tianqiao, NetEase founder William Ding, Tencent founders Ma Huateng and Zhang Zhidong.

Forbes said the selected eight candidates have all achieved great success in science and technology, but with their current strength, they may still need time to catch up with Bill Gates.

Forbes specifically pointed out that Chen Tianqiao, CEO and president of China's Shanda Interactive Entertainment Limited revealed his "great ambition with personal characteristics" while accepting the Forbes interview. Chen said, "As an entrepreneur in China, I respect Bill Gates, but I want to be China's Chen Tianqiao, not China's Bill Gates."

Perhaps Google's two co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page are most likely to go beyond Bill Gates' existing wealth. According to statistics, in March 2009, the two of them ranked 26th as the world's richest individuals with total assets of 15.3 billion U.S. dollars, while the total assets of Bill Gates were 50 billion U.S. dollars.

Forbes also pointed out that even if these selected technology tycoons have been unable to catch up with Bill Gates, they are still great founders of the company, changing our social life, entertainment mode, and methods we browse the web.
