China reports 70 million users of large-scale online games

China's users of large-scale online games increased 24.8 percent to reach 69.3million in 2009, with 67.9 percent being users of casual games and 61 percent as users of RPG games, a recent report on China's online games in 2009 by CNNIC said.

The report attributed the user increase to the rapid growth of casual online games. The users of this kind of games numbered 47.1 million in 2009, an increase of 19.8 percent compared with 2008. This has also boosted the increase of female users, making 38.9 percent online games users female.

Liu Xin, an analyst with CNNIC, said females have become a main driving force for China's online game market. Games like dancing and racing have significantly boosted the number of female users.

Adolescents still major online game users

The report said users between 10 to 19 accounts for 46.1 percent of all users. Students are still the biggest user group, representing 37.2 percent of all users.

Internet cafés are top choice for adolescents, with 25.7 percent of them choosing internet cafés as their major venue to play.
