The rest of the world is watching China's rate increase. Both Reuters and Associated Press are carrying the story.

Reuters quotes analysts saying the timing is a surprise, but is reasonable.

It's expected the measure will be effective in curbing inflationary expectations and mopping up the excess liquidity. Analysts also say more macro economic control policies in China could be expected in 2011.
