Bank of Russia Deputy Chairman Viktor Melnikov told visting Chinese Vice-Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng recently that Russia firmly supports China's foreign exchange rate policy.

At a meeting with Gao in Moscow, Melnikov said that recent pressure exerted by some countries on China to appreciate its currency, the Chinese yuan, was irresponsible.

Melnikov is also head of the Russian delegation of the Banking Cooperation Sub-Committee of the Sino-Russian Prime Ministerial Level Regular Meeting Mechanism.

Gao accompanied Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping on a visit to Russia recently.
