France's industrial production fell 0.9 percent in March from a month earlier, the national statistics bureau Insee reported Tuesday.

The bureau attributed the dip in the nation's industrial output to a 4.3 percent fall in car manufacturing.

Manufacturing activities fell 1 percent following an increase of 0.9 percent in February, Insee reported.

France, one of the world leading exporters of manufactured goods, saw production of mining and construction drop by 0.7 percent and 0.3 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, a 1.7 percent decrease was reported in petroleum refining while electric and electronic production also registered a 1 percent fall.

France was the world's sixth-largest exporter and the fourth-largest importer of manufactured goods last year, according to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
