Eurozone industrial production rises by 1.0% in August

Industrial production in the euro zone rose by 1.0 percent in August, compared with the previous month, the European Union's (EU) statistics bureau Eurostat said on Wednesday.

Revised figures showed industrial production in the 16 EU nations that use the euro increased slightly by 0.1 percent in July after the index dropped by 0.1 percent in June.

In August, production of capital goods grew the most, up by 3.0 percent in the euro zone, while durable consumer goods rose by 1.8 percent. Intermediate goods increased by 1.4 percent, but production of non-durable consumer goods and energy fell by 0.2 percent and 0.7 percent respectively.

In the 27-nation EU, industrial production rose by 0.8 percent in August, compared with July, but it rose by 7.5 percent over a year ago.

Among the member states for which data were available, industrial production rose in 18, fell in three and remained stable in France on monthly basis.

The most significant fall was registered in Ireland, down by 13.6 percent, while the highest increase was in Greece, up by 5.6 percent. Industrial production in Germany, the largest economy in the euro zone, rose by 1.8 percent.
