London stock market up in early trade

The London stock market went up in early trade on Friday with the FTSE 100 index gaining 14.65 points, or 0.28 percent, to 5,225.94 points at opening.
Top gainer was BG Group, which added 3.5 percent on the strength of rumors of a bid for the firm by Royal Dutch Shell.
Mining stocks also put in a strong showing. African Barrick Gold, Randgold Resources and BHP Billiton were all up more than 1 percent.
