Portuguese President Cavaco Silva will meet next Monday nine former finance ministers in the Belem presidential palace, soliciting their ideas on the government's economic development mode, an official said Tuesday.
Medina Carreira, one of the promoters of the meeting, said: "It's rare for the president to meet a group of nine former finance ministers to discuss the government's economic development issues."
He added that the former finance ministers have rich experience in dealing with complicated situations of economic crisis.
According to the official, some of the nine former finance ministers also suggested the government reconsider the nation's huge investments in public projects made by the socialist government of Prime Minister Jose Socrates.
