London stock market closed higher on Tuesday with the FTSE 100 index up by 20.57 points, or 0.42 percent, at 4,916.80 points.
Among the top gainers, Man Group added 4.83 percent, and Royal Bank of Scotland Group rose 3.86 percent after announcing reductions to the benefits offered by its pension scheme.
Mining shares led the fallers after copper prices fell. Kazakhmys dropped 3.57 percent while Antofagasta fell 3.01 percent.
