Colombian President Alvaro Uribe on Tuesday began his visit to Canada to promote the approval of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries, local media reported.
"We will take this opportunity to share thoughts about the economy," said Uribe, who will attend the 15th International Economic Forum of the Americas in Montreal gathering over 150 political and economic leaders in the world.
On the sidelines of the forum, Uribe will meet with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and members of the Canadian government and parliament to discuss the FTA.
Colombia and Canada signed the FTA in 2008, but it still needs the approval of the Canadian parliament.
Colombian Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez said the Canadian government is generally in line with Colombia on the topic. Source:Xinhua
