Nikkei closes 0.71% higher

Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday with the key Nikkei index climbing 0.71 percent.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average advanced 74.05 points from Thursday to 10,526.76, ending a three-day losing streak.

The broader Topix index gained 7.71 points, or 0.83 percent, to 941.93.

Among the leading winners were the glass and ceramics sector and the miscellaneous sector including game giant Nintendo, and the textiles sector, while decliners included the air transport, pharmaceutical and electricity and gas sectors.

Trading volume on the main section contracted to 2,143 million shares from 2,578 million on Thursday.
