Nikkei closes 0.26 pct higher

Tokyo stocks closed higher for the fourth straight trading session Thursday with the key Nikkei index up 0.26 percent.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average climbed 28.35 points from Wednesday to 10,836.64, hitting a fresh closing high since April 30.

The broader Topix index was up 6.84 points, or 0.71 percent, to 974.14.

Among the leading winners were the mining sector, rubber products, and electricity and gas sectors, while the decliners included the consumer finance, textile and precision machinery sectors.

Trading volume on the main section contracted to 2,444 million shares from 2,608 million Wednesday.
