The total number of job vacancies in Australia in August was 181,300 with a 9.8 percent increase from the previous quarterly survey, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) said on Thursday.
The number of job vacancies in the private sector was 163,800 in August, a rise of 9.5 percent from May.
The number of job vacancies in the public sector was 17,500 in August, an increase of 13.4 percent from three months earlier.
Budget pressures at the ABS prompted the suspension of the vacancies survey after the May 2008 survey.
Surveying was resumed from November 2009, leaving a gap of five quarterly surveys for which the ABS said it's unable to construct reliable estimates.
